Have you ever had a UTI or UTI-like symptoms?
If so, you are not alone!
The crazy thing is I’ve had UTI symptoms before and rushed to see my doctor to get tested, and to my surprise, I would test negative. It actually happened to me a few times. Maybe it was just the fear of having one that made me believe I was having one. I don’t know exactly what it was, but sometimes our minds go to the most negative thing versus positive. Anyways, my doctor prescribed an antibiotic and said, “If you feel any symptoms, start taking the prescription and then make an appointment.” It was so weird because I kept testing negative, but he still gave me a prescription “just in case.”
A few months later, I tested positive for one during my pregnancy, but he told me that they are more common during pregnancies. I typically don’t get them, but I know they are common. About ten in 25 women and three in 25 men will have symptoms of a UTI during their lifetime. I’ve tested positive for them twice. It’s been a while since I’ve last dealt with it, but I wanted to share one alternative tricks that have helped a few of my friends and me almost instantly. Of course, no one magic pill will help everyone but spreading the knowledge about alternative ways to help is where it starts.
I was first introduced to corn silk tea by my mom. One day, my mom was at my house and handed me a few tea bags and said to me, “If you ever have UTI symptoms, make this.” I knew right away that lady was on to something; she has the magic pill for everything, so this new tea bag that I had been gifted had me excited. Naturally, I did my research on it and then put the tea bags in a special place. A few months went by, and it finally came time to try this new product out. My symptoms weren’t that bad, but I felt myself having to pee more than normal, and my bladder felt uncomfortable. I immediately knew what to do; I heated some water and popped that bad boy in the hot water. A few minutes went by, and it was time to drink it up. The tea was not bad. The taste was very minimal, and there was almost no smell. I had tea twice that day because I wanted to make sure it got the job done. By the end of the day, surprisingly, my UTI-like symptoms were gone. I am so in love with natural products because they work so well for me. So now, let’s get into what corn silk is and the claimed benefits.
Corn silk is a common name for Stigma maydis. It’s the fine, shiny, thread-like, weak fibers that grow as a part of the ears of corn. Corn silk is used as a medicine. Corn silk contains proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and fiber
Fun fact: Corn silk is a part of the corn female parts. Isn’t it ironic how it helps our lady parts?
Corn silk is used to treat many different illnesses, but it’s used for bladder infections, inflammation of the urinary system, and kidney stones for the topic at hand.
To wrap up, this is a reminder that not everything is for everyone. There are side effects that can occur. I am not a doctor, nor do I ever claim to be. Make sure you are doing your research. With alternative medicine, it’s nice to know that there are so many things out there that can help treat or lessen symptoms when we need extra help.
